DeDraMo #15
Wasn't wow'd by the newest movie. Hope it makes people go read the book.
Because "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" is my favorite.

The Return of 'Her Majesty's Courier'
AKA Bee Lady
I recently had to make a 10"x15" print of this image, so I resized it and re-painted it a little (to reduce the pixelation).
The lady who bought it was just IN LOVE with this image, I was so happy to sell her a copy.

I'm still working on story ideas and character development for a Bee Lady Comic or Illustrated Novel or I don't know what.
Ink and watercolor?
Flash?
Ink and Screentone?

DeDraMo #6–10
I don't know if it's cheating to count some of these as four (because there are four little sketches in some), but I'm also doing a comic from DeDraMo, so I think I can be a little flexible with my numbers.
Tegaki-E is just so useful for sketching in. Meanwhile my actual sketchbook gathers dust. (No not really, I just haven't scanned them yet.)
Glowsticks = Insta-happy. No lie.
YES CHILD I AM A PATHETIC ADULT SITTING IN FRONT OF MY COMPUTER GO AWAY.
Nothing to see here, nothing to see...
Bla bla bla emo, bla bla bla random anatomical sketch idk idk
I wish I could draw as well as Regina Spektor sings.

Making Awesome out of a Crappy Situation
Just thought I'd share this...
So today I printed my portfolio and a sheet of business cards to cut apart. I must have miscommunicated with the printer or something, because everything ended up on light-weight color-printer paper, rather than the heavier, card stock-like paper I would have liked. The images in the portfolio still look ok, but the cards weren't on the heavier paper I thought they would be. Which posed a problem. You can't hand someone a 2"x3" piece of paper. That's just not cool.
SO...
I mounted them to some arches-type heavy-weight paper (thank you elmer's glue-stick!), and the end product is really neat, it gives the back a nice texture. Plus they're really weighty, feels nice too hold.
DUR DURP the end.

DeDraMo #2-4
For a good laugh: look up a video of Platypuses swimming: it looks like a cross between a fat kid with swimmy-wings and a seizure.
I forgot to say—my goal is to draw 50 drawdings. The original parameters were one drawing a day for a total of 31, but if a picture is worth 1,000 words, and the writers had to write 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo, then I'm not gonna cop-out.
Monotremes Oviparous, Ovum Meroblastic
Which is to say: Monotremes (the type of mammal Platypuses are, lay eggs, and the eggs are similar in development to reptile eggs in that part of the ovum does not divide.
I'm (not so) secretly a nerd you guys.

Platypuses are a lot more weird than I ever imagined.
For one thing, they don't lay eggs like birds, they lay eggs like LIZARDS. In fact their bodies are structured more like reptiles, and they still try to swim like a reptile or fish would, even though their tails are flattened on the AP axis (as opposed to the DV axis, as with crocodilians).
The males are venomous, with a venom strong enough to cripple a human with pain, or kill a dog.
They have 10 sex chromosomes. A human male is XY, a platypus male is XYXYXYXYXY.
The females lay eggs and suckle their young with milk, but only the left ovary is functional.
These creatures are just an amalgam of non-sequitur factoids.
WHAT!?

More pining for my fish, Narcissus.
How appropriate, a self portrait.
Also I have a headset for my Stage Manager job. I think it's cool.

Chickens
Sorry for the radio silence (inb4 no one actually reads my blog anymore) it's been a busy week with dress rehearsals and last-minute disasters. And Thanksgiving.
I am currently working on a moderately large piece for an art trade due at the end of the month. And yet all I can think of or draw is chickens. I want to raise chickens you guys, you don't even know.
But here, have some gap-toothed dudes each with a chicken on their head.
This was really hard to explain to on-lookers.

Gladys n' Tessa De Los Muertos
Gladys and Tessa with their face-paint on for Day of the Dead in this Tegaki-E thread.
Just a sketch I thought was worth cleaning up and sharing.
This was really fun to draw, thank you Di for making such a cool thread!

Comic Journal, RP funtimes and Crack
A wild Tegaki-E Dump appeared! It used random!
It's super effective!
Comic Journal
Pretty much the most serendipitous thing that's ever happened to me. Pretty much.
Recently I acquired 100 stalkers—I mean watchers—on Tegaki. :B
This is really stupid, and probably won't be funny to most of you, but it's a parody of this Kate Beaton comic. Go read the comic, it's actually funny, not just pretend funny.
This is retarded.

Sir Tiger With Fur Slicked Back
Gouache on Arches Paper
6"x8"
Approx 10 hours or less
Commission Policy Here.
Open Commission Slots Here.
When I showed Jacob (the client) the color and value comp this is what he said:
"Imagine a three year old.
Now imagine that this three year old has just been given a giant robot unicorn that shoots lasers and candy.
I am doing that same happy dance over Sir Tiger.
Take it away Maestro! I am ecstatic about the way it is going!"
;3; That is the nicest thing for any artist to hear, seriously. There is no better way to ensure that I'll do my best and try my hardest.
So much so, that I entirely re-painted the arm on the left because the underdrawing was bad and left the painting looking goofy. And this is re-activating paint so it was no small task! But I'm glad I did it. (Post Secret: I would have done this anyway. But I really wanted to do my best.)
And I just got the best idea for the next painting in this series. (There's three, it's gotta be a series now) "Monocle Jack"—a Kangaroo... with a monocle.

Happy Halloween!
I went to a Halloween party for about ten minutes. I'm not even exaggerating. Then I went home and played on the Halloween themed TF2 maps with Rachel and it was amazing. Made my night so much better. And you can't say I didn't try.
My girls as they appear in their Halloween threads: Gladys the fail!Vampire, and Tessa, on team survivor.
I think my one year anniversary in this RP was... a month ago or something :U
Halloween! It is probably my favorite holiday.

Please don't ask me to rationalize that lighting. <:c

Lady Owl
No, this is not in reference to "Lady Hawk." Oops, I didn't even think of that until I wrote that title.
Anyway.
Not the sweeping success I hoped it would be, but a passable companion piece to Sir Owl.
This is probably the first painting where I consciously tried to make planar definition with color and value changes. AND SUCCEEDED.
So. To all my teachers—I DID LEARN SOMETHING FROM YOU AFTER ALL.
I'm just a late bloomer I guess, I'm sorry.

WOAH it's FANART
WOAH IT'S WARRIOR'S FANART GUYS
Now that I look at it again, there is A LOT hat bothers me about this but...! Oh well.
Before you unleash your 12-year-old wrath on me, I've never read the books, this is a gift for a friend, so please don't fill pages with whatever inconsistencies you might see.

FROM THE TEXT:
A misty light was already filling the warriors' den; the dawn patrol would have to leave right away.
"Okay," Brambleclaw meowed. "I'll lead the dawn patrol. Squirrelflight, will you come with me? Cloudtail, we'll take you as well, and Rainwhisker."
Cloudtail stretched his jaws in a huge yawn, mumbled, "Right with you," and woke the younger warrior by tickling his nose with the tip of his tail. Rainwisker sat bolt upright, staring around as if he wan't sure what had disturbed him.

A Consuming Fire
My new sketchbook cover, some landscapes I sketched out on a recent excursion with Richard Hull and Dave McClellan, and some typography.
The scripture with reference:
Heb. 12: 29 For our God is a consuming fire.
Other choices were:
Deut. 4: 24 For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
^ I really liked this one, but it was kinda long, and a lot of people misinterpret "jealous"
Acts 2: 19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
^ COOL but long, and also violent.
( Scripture taken from the KJV )
I really like typography (mostly inspired by Jake Wyatt and the way he writes in his sketchbooks), and I'm finally experimenting with it more. I'm starting to think I ought to hand-letter a comic to see how I like it. Because I think I'd like it.

NOT COOL FRED
So I'm taking commissions through my DeviantArt account and this was MY FIRST ONE.
Needless to say I had A LOT MORE FUN doing this than that small illustration job I took a while ago.
...
"Get that wrench out of my face."
"It's not in your face it's in my hand."
"Get what's in your hand out of my face."
Also got paid less but DEMS TH' BREAKS.

Well it's been a quiet week ...
No, actually, it hasn't. Not for the last few weeks, in fact.
Here's some comic journal recounting the events:
So I decided I wanted to start looking like a girl.
So this happened.
Thanks Kwisten.
July 24th! Pioneer Day!
AKA MORE FIREWORKS!
Thanks guys.
