Comic Journal 001 worm bin

So I'm ripping off Amforny and trying out the comic-journal approach to record keeping. Works for the more story-oriented topics, not so much for more sensitive issues I think.
(Remember to click for a close up. Other wise you won't be able to read it.)

Yes, I'm a freak. I am aware.
But check out the website Greentime. They are teh AWESUM.

Tasuke ni kita yo 助け に 来た よ

欲 頑張ってた ね。
Yoku ganbatteta ne.
気 着けて 御帰り。
Ki tukete okaeri.
The Theme song that really made me love Gin:

Read this song's translation it is sad , beautiful, and haunting.

I  Ichimaru Gin (市丸 ギン). And Shinsou (神鎗) was fun to draw.

Drawn with: Prussian Blue nuPastel
Kneaded Eraser
Chamois
Love

Also, the card! A picture of DOG. Drawn with: Water color on arches paper, masked with masking fluid to get that 'silk screened' look. Actually, that was an accident.

Both drawn for the author of the web-comic Pomegranate Milkshakes. Hooray!

Happy Birthday, Sausage!

(Amfrony, is my Japanese correct?)

Tanks!

It's Tanks-giving! The holiday where we go out into the woods, blow innocent birds away with our caterpillars treaded panzerkamphwagons and go home to give gifts of tanks to each other.
Or not.
Oh well!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

And here's a random picture of Sokka from Avatar: the last air bender.

Mercedes and Me

This is Jen's rat, Mercedes. This is Mercedes climbing all over me. She's a good girl, she just has bad eyesight.

Like my hair cut? OK OK, it's old hat news I know I know...

Manamana and Cat girls

Read left-to-right.
So I'm experimenting around with ink and white out and tone. Here is just an example of ink and white out, the tone is just some quickly done Photoshop gray scale.
Before scanning it my ink exploded all over the page; and so that's why the lines are kinda wonky in areas - used a lot of white out. And, oh the glory, the eraser in Photoshop.
I hope this reads. Aka you 'get it.'
It's going to be a short comic-story I hope to put into a small collection and sell off at ComicCon '08 and also give to people as a portfolio. :dances:
Oh and I got my hairs cut. Short pixie cut. Yey.

MANLY things Astro Boy and Nietzsche

Because I don't want to shaft you guys I'll post some crappy sketches at the end of this... but first! A list of some of the AMAZING comics I've read in the past few days. Comics that INSPIRE. Comics that are EPIC.

It's a bird by Steven T. Seagle
Three others that I know have read his and have all said the same thing. MASTERPIECE. Just read it. It's awesome. It's intense.

Off Road by Sean Murphy
Great art. MANLY story line. Super funny. Overall: amazing! I read this in one sitting and felt the need to do MANLY things. 'Cuz, that's what it's about! Being manly and conquering nature! And then I looked down and realized that I was wearing a M.A.C. shirt. ...
I thought it meant Macintosh! Like the computer? But then I find out later that it's some LAME makeup brand. I don't wear make up. I'm manly.
But that's just the problem! Lately I've been swinging wildly back and forth between wanting to be girly and falling deeply into my natural state of violent tomboy.

I'm getting my haircut today, and for the past few days my internal dialogue (and believe me it IS a dialogue) has been something along the lines of: "I want it shaved! I want a bob! I want a flat top! I want a cute cut! I want to be Sigourney Weaver! I want to look like a girl!"
My mother is probably weeping. With joy or sorrow I know not, but it's taken her 20 years to at least get me to the halfway point. :sigh:
Oh yeah, and a lot of 'your mom jokes.' Rad comic.

I'm reading Blankets right now by Craig Thompson. SAD. VERY. but it's the size of a phone book and I'm definitely reading a comic book that big. And it builds character. I forsee getting nothing done over Thanksgiving break. Especially now that I have the entire first season of Avatar on DVD courtesy of Lyvia.

So, back tracking a bit, I go to the library to get some comics and a book called 'Death and Sensuality' that I've been trying to get for 4 months now. It's out 'til March. SUCK. Some professor must have it. So I get Nietzsche instead. And Astro Boy. And a comic with Dinosaurs tearing each other apart. I'm like a 12 year old boy! What is wrong with me!? :weep:

In recent news: http://arjandpoopy.com/
http://www.arjandpoopy.com/ep10.html
AMAZINGNESS.
What will they do next.

And... I'm re-living my childhood. Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, Histeria and ... Freakazoid!. Yes. Only two of those are on DVD. Pinky and the Brain is even re-airing! Sad times are upon us. Cartoons aren't what they used to be. This is proof that being politically correct is bad for culture! Yeah I know, I'm sad. Freakazoid needs to be on DVD right NOW. :dies: It's a weird obsession but it's hilarious.

And the pictures I promised:
Yeah yeah, I know they're old and crappy. Shutup.

A quick update

Just a doodle painting I did a few days ago. I want to do a few short stoy comics for ComicCon 2008 and sell then in a small collection booklet. This is a character from one of those stories; I like her. And she likes tomatoes. TOh-Mah-Toes. TOES.
We'll see how many pages get done. But I'm a fan of cheap staple binding; there's just something timeless about it...

Wagawagawaga...

:Dances:
How've you all been?
Yep, I'm updating! Again! :gasp shock:
First to start: Serious pictures! Mostly.
Figure drawrings.
A cat I painted like a YEAR ago. 3 hours, gouache.
Doodles I did when I should have been drawing the model...

I'm really starting to love Gin. He used to creep me out, but he's become a sympathetic character. Ironically. Don't look at the Japanese! I know I got at least two of the characters wrong... :cries:

He will take over the WORLD. And he's so happy about it!

I did not draw this! Jake drew this to show a friend of ours at a Halloween party who Spike Spiegel is. Because her boyfriend looks like Spike. Yeah. Look at those hips.
Go to Jake's Blog NOW. And then never come back because he blows me out of the freaking water. :cries:

That's it.
Now go 'way.

Christmas Card OF DOOM

Finally. Done. I think. Color looks way way too saturized (sp?) here but I don't care.
I will probably do a few more touch ups, but for now.

...

I don't care, I'm tired.
:dies:

Art update!

This is why we draw and draw and re-re-draw.
As you may (or may not) know I am working on a Christmas card for the college of fine arts and communications at BYU and my topic assignment is Christ: I am the Life.
Difficult!
So here are my sketches since last post:

Getting there... But note the distracting tangents where the slope of the mountain, his knee and the horizon line meet. BAD.

Tried getting rid of some of the weird tangents; tried the red sash...

And then my professor siad, "why don't you look at the work of William Morris and try some other ideas... And these resulted. I'm going with this idea now, so hopefully the people at the college will like it!

And below are some ideas for a short graphic-novel, which I hope to put into a collection and sell at Comicon.
Basically with this story it's an excuse to draw a cute kid in a cat-hat and pillowcase dress, tomatoes, and a creature with ape arms and huge ram horns.
Yeah.
And the kid will have freckles and SUNBURN.
The row of 11 heads has nothing to do with this idea. It's from another arc I want to develop someday but for now...

TOMATOES! I love them.

That's it I guess.
I can't bear to upload any of my crappy gesture night drawings. :( Sorry guys, they're just not good.

A pen sketch...

I know I haven't uploaded anything for the past... forever. I'm sorry. School and life and my inability to manage time... Yeah. You get the idea.
This is for a Christmas card based on the theme of "I AM the Life." It looks more like an Easter card...

Back to work!

I am a LAAAZY person

Yes. So I don't actually have anything to post at the moment...
Other than a rant about how excited I am to have tones! TONES! :foams at the mouth: I made myself some screen tones and I'm so~ happy! If you do not know what a screen tone is... for shame. Go here. Educate yourself.
I WILL post those anime banzai pictures soon. I promise.
For now you can laugh at my cosplay as Nekozawa from Ouran High School Host Club:
With and without cloak:Really really low resolution camera. Yeah.

A promise of pictures and photos...

Several images I kept promising different people that I would upload... I was taught how to tie a yukata by a real Nihonjin! And then taught how to properly fold and store it! Hooray! (Thank you Balgram for getting this for me!)
We had a lovely double rainbow a while ago... I'm really glad these digital photos turned out!
An art trade I did a while ago in exchange for a ear-flap cat hat. I recently added bells. I'll have to put up pictures of that too...
Some creature sketches. And Mew and Mewtwo. I loves them. <3

A character that holds a fuzzy happy place in my tail. Her name is Elechim, and I created her with a friend for a short story/comic we did a few years back. Took all summer to do 20 pages. Sheesh. A random sketch of Jack that I did a while ago too...

Last of Vegas, and BEST (part 3 of 3)

BODIES the exhibition
Best for last. As they say. I'm so glad I went, bodies was well worth the student dictounted price of 20$. Yes, yes indeed. After this room was a lot of organs and organ related um, things... So I didn't really draw those. Huh, thought I had more of these.
Last few random pages that didn't really fit in anywhere. My thoughts on Vegas are pretty clear on that last page there.
Oh yeah, happy B-day to me, I'm 20. Have been since July 30th, but I'm lazy, what can I say.

Vegas trip ... part 2 (of 3)

(Note: all images have commentary written on them - check them out!)
The start of my grand journey - I was up two hours earlier than I needed to be it turned out. My greyhound left at 9 something am, the station didn't open up until 8 something and I got inside just before it began raining. I had a grand time just drawing whatever came my way though - which ended up being a few flying ants that fell on me. Clumsy things.People at the bus station - the rain clouds above the rooftops. Nothing too grand.
Palm trees. I drew a lot of those. I like palm trees.
Sunset and people by the pool. Kind-of a lame pool, seeing all the other hotel's pools, but I don't swim (only went once) so it's no big deal. It's kind'a lame going by yourself anyway.
More palm trees. The street view was from the second level of the Deuce buses that run 24-7.
Finally found a bench on the inside of one hotel and sat down a while. There are no benches anywhere. The guy with the sign was standing on a street corner with a microphone and an amplifier and was generally being noticeable.
THE BEST PART - I found a 30 to 40 foot fish tank at the Mirage - spent two hours or so. So much fun!
That puffer was HUGE. I'm not even joking, three feet long. HUGE. I want to hug it so much!
And random people on the buses.
I found lio0ns at the MGM! How awesome am I? Hah, it was really fun, but they were so active and it was crowded, so I couldn't get much more than super-fast sketches.
