Trilobites

What are they? What are they? Are they real? Are they alive?
I WANT ONE. THEY ARE CUTE.

That is all.

Update:
A few kind souls have pointed out to me that these are GIANT ISOPODS. I love them. I want one. Do you think the land lady would understand?

Portfolio Time and fun

Hi there!

I am holding a piece of the world's longest Ice Cream Sundae, a record now held by Brigham Young University (Provo). Right next to this record is our 7 year long running status as the country's #1 stone cold sober school. Yes, I am proud of this statistic. And of my cat hat with ear muffs.

Been a while no? Well, here are the images from two portfolios I recently submitted. There are some recognizable images and some new faces...

Although the song doesn't really fit, I painted this piece with this line in mind: Winter just isn't my season.

Sorry if the colors are a little wonky on this one... working between different monitors can really mess you up...
This is actually from Illustration 1 (took in 2007) but I still like it. There are problems yes, but it's still fundamentally one of my favourites.

One of the few exceptions where the scan looks better (in my opinion) than the original. I like how the colours are pushed a lot more in this image. The original is quite dull... This is from a book I said I'd help a friend complete... Uh yeah. Then I found out that my life is a lot more busy than I thought. I'm sorry. :(

Oh yeah: http://marnette.canalblog.com/
Check it out.

And from the box of for fun paintings:

Don't let this image fool you, the original is TINY. I think the scan is a little too big actually...
I did this as a possible composition / color palate for a larger piece. Until I changed my mind.

And since I'm not pulling the wool over anyone's eyes, yes this is a Shinigami, a la awesome comic series Bleach. Maybe ... Hinamori? Can't tell from here... But this scene is roughly based on a dream I've had. That stand of trees is a reoccurring image.

And for fun, Miternacht, an amazing and scary song by E Nomine, a freaky cool weird German band.

A re-mix:

Another re-mix:

India! Yay other European Countries that I don't know what they are! Yay Canada!
Wow, OK, last thing I posted was zoo sketches huh. OK OK new stuff:

Battle Raccoons from the book 'Out on Blue 6.'

Some character design from our latest assignment. The theme was "Post-Apocalyptic Animal Heroes!" I chose to go with just the Post-Apocalypse part, and based their personalities and 'look' on animals. They don't really have names yet. All of them are based on citty-dwelling garbage-picking animals.
Can you feel the Gorillaz influence? I was aiming for it...

Ducks! And Botamon.
That's it for now.
:\

I AGREE.
We are all just jumping through hoops.

A long time coming! Zoo Pics!

Here are some sketches from my trip to the zoo! I went with my visiting teachers, Karianne and Mary. They are so fun! Sorry some of the drawings are up-side-down.
I used ... Earl Grey tea. Yeah, I'm a freak I know, but it was fun. Touched up with pencils, sakura marker, and ball point pen.
I think the pelican is my favourite one.
Zebra butt!

Some doodles and sketches from the bus. That alligator never moves. >:(
I love turkey. :3 GOBLE GOBLE

Sketches

Here's the preliminary sketches for 'Lonely Lovelies.'

Even though I ended up going with the original design (the upper left one) I tried other compositions and poses; I didn't really like any of them.
Some kids in animal hats, a black squirrel, a bunkey and a nekkid lady. I draw weird stuff.
Yeah.
And in recent news, the Dinotopia BLOG. So much fun.

Valentimes

Super Duper Love Love Days (by Gumi)
Lyrics and translation can be found here.

I don't hate the holiday like many other single folk, but I guess I feel like a Muslim at Christmas. Just kinda... indifferent.

So, a picture for Valentimes; Lonely Lovelies. Don't read into this, I just wanted an excuse to paint cat girls like Malcolm "Skip" Liepke. And practice acrylic.

Ink and WashPitt Brush pen on marker board / illustration board, Earl Grey tea wash.

Final

Holding each other or pushing each other away?
Acrylic on a scan print-out. Matte medium over printing paper, mounted on bookbinding-board. 3~4 hours?

I'll upload the sketches later. And I think I'll try one with just white highlights. That's the nice thing about scanning your work and painting on the print-outs.
So. Yeah. Doesn't help that our two days of nice weather were horribly interrupted by snow. Again. I hates it my precious.

Sometimes I feel like this is all my professors say to me.
But sometimes, there comes a NICE ONE that makes everything all right, tells you you are still a zygote and draws on your newspaper.
All I want is this.

Have some more super cute songs!
Nishi Kaze no Keari Michi

Anata to Ireba (by Tange Sakura, Iwao Junko)
Lyrics and translations can be found here.
I am pulling all these songs from the Card Captor Sakura Perfect Vocal Collection.

A quick post

Just a few links that you all might find fun/useful:
Artist J. Kirk Richards's home page. Good stuff.
And A low impact woodland home, in Wales. I want to live in a house like this.
And the comic Girl Genius. Good stuff; I've only read the first 'volume' or so, but it's been nominated for a few awards.

Anyway. Off to do stuff.
Ja.
Oh and, YAY CANADA!

A painting.

Poot.
A painting.
One of the last from illustration 2, one of the few I like.
Except that she's got an overbite in this painting... :(
Yeah.

Submited Page

My submitted page!
I don't know if I'll go with this particular toning style, but this is the general gist of the look. I think I'll re-draw this page any way.

Let's hope we get a table at Comic Con!

THIS IS A SKETCH DUMP

This is a sketch dump of stuff that I haven't had time to sort or worry about. Or even fix the levels on.
Dedicated to first visitor(s) from South Africa and South America, a few more European Countries, as well as all those other random people from the states.
And JAPAAAAAN!!! 初めまして, 宜しくお願いします｡
