SanDiego ComicCon 2009 Report

This took too long to finish:

Started the trip off with sing-alongs and lolz. Which eventually gave way to uncomfortable, sweaty half-napping and delirious staring out the window. But thanks to our fearless navigator we made it across the desert and to the magical land of CALIFORNIA!

THURSDAY:
Started the day off with a big cup o' GOT LOST ON THE TROLLY, but it was easily fixed.

Got me pass, and straightway bought "What is Torch Tiger?" for myself, Rachel, Jake and Anthony. Found out that Rachel's 25 years of Ninja Turtles and Usagi Yojimbo picture made it into the souvenir book. Super cool!

The Scout costumes were pretty popular... I think a lot of the guys who saw and recognized us were surprised/delighted to see girls cosplaying as first-person shooter videogame characters. :3
When we met up with a few other TF2 cosplayers we raided the Left 4 Dead booth and seemeed to really make the guys running it really happy (they took pictures and gave us stickers, hurr). Then they laughed at us failing on the X-Box because we're all PC gamers. :| It made me laugh too. :D

Dropped by Tracy's booth and got my copy of Lackadaisy signed. (squeal!)

Attended the Dr. Horrible Sing-Along screening. They gave us playbills with lyrics and call-backs, and it was SO MUCH FUN. Just imagine a giant room full of nerds all singing along and making unanimous commentary. YES. BEAUTIFUL.

FRIDAY:
Got in line for the WB presentation... mostly so I could then stay in the room for the PIXAR presentation. >:3
But both were loads of fun. I'm definitely seeing 'Where the Wild Things Are' (it has Mr. Maurice Sendak's blessing), 'The Princess and the Frog,' 'Sherlock Holmes,' and 'Ponyo.'
I'd like to see Book of Eli... but it looks INTENSE. And I'll probably wait for the cheap theater.
I didn't get to see the 9 panel, but I'm super excited for it. It looks to be a very character-driven story. :3

Dropped by and visited Johannes Matte (aka Rufftoon) at the Flight booth and bought a copy of 'Watertribe' 1 and 2. All profit goes to charity, so that's pretty freakin' sweet. They're really handsome fat comics too. You can read all of it online for free here.
Also got some handsome little Avatar element pins. YEAH.

Finally bought that huge, beautiful Claire Wendling art book, the one with the blue cover with the girl and the cat on the front? OK, not very specific I know, but I LOVE IT. UNH Claire you kill me dead.

SATURDAY:
Evolved into a Digimon and went with Water Bender #3 (aka Rachel) to the Avatar cosplayer's meet-up. There were about 50 people there, and since I wasn't in the right kind of costume (DURHUR oops) I took pictures. About ten minutes into the shenanigans Michael Dante DiMartino, Bryan Konietzko, and Sifu Kisu SHOWED UP AND TOOK PICURES WITH EVERYONE. Yes. These guys are amazing. and really cool. And don't look a day over 30.

The Digimon costume was well received (I was Airdramon). At one point I was beset upon by three guys at once. It was hilarious. And confusing. I also got nabbed by a guy from a London magazine. I don't remember the name. :(

SUNDAY:
We were able to squeeze in a little bit of beach time before leaving, and that was nice. ^_^
I miss the beach. There were crabs! And wading birds!

The drive back was just as hot, but still really fun. The landscape and the sky were doing AMAZING things, so we took pictures.

Got home safe, and tired. But happy. So happy.

THE END

We'll see if the feature-length movie can hold up to the short-format film.
